Primo Agency connects you with vetted coconut shell charcoal kilns and briquette plants in Giong Trom, Mo Cay and Ben Tre City, and with the three activated carbon plants of the delta. Our Ho Chi Minh City team separates real kiln owners from the many traders, collects VILAS or SGS lab reports on fixed carbon, ash and moisture before you pay a deposit, checks weathering and self-heating certificates required for sea freight, runs pre-shipment inspection and books the container, so a shisha or BBQ brand gets consistent grades from its first order.

Vietnam Coconut Shell Charcoal Market Overview (2025)

Coconut shell charcoal is Vietnam’s most valuable coconut by-product: about US$88 million of charcoal plus US$33 million of activated carbon in the latest state count. The Coconut Association counts only about 15 real manufacturer-exporters; the rest are traders.

South Korea takes a third of Vietnamese charcoal, China a fifth, then Japan and the Gulf. Premium lump reaches 75 to 85% fixed carbon, ash under 5% and 7,000 to 7,500 kcal/kg. Low grades circulate too, so demand a lab report for each lot.

Indicative prices: 350 to 600 US dollars per tonne for lump, 500 to 900 for briquettes, 1,200 to 1,400 for premium shisha grades. A 20-foot container holds 18 tonnes of lump or 14 tonnes of shisha cubes, the usual minimum.

Since January 2026 the IMDG Code treats all charcoal as self-heating cargo, requiring 14 days of weathering. Charcoal and briquettes carry the 12.5% U.S. Section 301 duty in force since July 24, 2026; activated carbon is exempt.
