Vietnam Desiccated Coconut Market Overview (2025)

Vietnam is the world’s fourth desiccated coconut origin behind the Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, with about 4% of exports, roughly 18,000 tonnes a year. Former Ben Tre alone produces around 50,000 tonnes of desiccated coconut a year according to the trade ministry.

Grades run from high fat at 63% minimum to low fat, in fine, medium, flake and chip cuts. Specs: 3% moisture and sulphite below 50 ppm or none. Large mills fill 25 kg kraft bags; a 20-foot container holds about 12 tonnes.

Prices peaked at 3,400 to 4,300 US dollars per tonne in 2025, then eased to about 2,000 to 2,100 FOB Indonesia by mid-2026. Vietnamese flakes stayed the dearest origin near 4.60 euros per kilo because premium grades are scarce after nut prices tripled.

Require BRCGS, IFS or FSSC 22000, Salmonella-free lot tests and sulphite declarations; a 2022 RASFF alert on Vietnamese coconut meat shows why. Desiccated coconut under HTS 0801.11.00 is exempt from the 12.5% Section 301 duty in force since July 24, 2026.
