Vietnam Coco Coir Market Overview (2025)

Coir and coco peat come from the coconut husk, processed in the An Thanh craft village and factories around Mo Cay. Vietnam is the largest coir exporter by shipments, with China taking close to 90% of raw fibre.

Coco peat is the industrial segment: 5 kg blocks at 5:1 compression, EC below 0.5 for washed grades, 20 to 24 tonnes per 40-foot container. Indicative FOB prices run 130 to 380 US dollars per tonne. Korea, Japan and Australia are the main buyers.

Coir mats and nets go mostly to South Korea for slopes and planters. Tra Bac alone makes 1.4 million square metres a year. Raw fibre sells for 110 to 170 US dollars per tonne, processed fibre for 500 or more.

Every shipment needs phytosanitary and fumigation certificates; Australia inspects all consignments and Korea runs plant quarantine. The 12.5% Section 301 duty covers coir fibre and mats. Coco peat under 1404.90.90 is exempt, so settle the classification with a broker.
