Vietnam leads world pepper exports with about 60% of volume. Spice exports reached a record USD 2.12 billion in 2025, and pepper alone brought USD 1.66 billion on 247,482 tonnes.

Cassia added 120,300 tonnes worth USD 300 million, mostly to India, and Vietnam is the second star anise exporter after China. The United States, UAE, China, India and Germany are the top pepper markets.

Black pepper averaged USD 6,607 per tonne in 2025 and white pepper USD 8,629. The five largest exporters, led by ofi, ship about 40% of pepper. Processors also import 20,000 to 25,000 tonnes a year for re-export.

EU alerts on Vietnamese pepper mostly concern pesticide residues, so ask for steam sterilisation and a residue report per lot. Pepper, cassia, star anise, chili, ginger and turmeric are exempt from the 12.5% U.S. Section 301 duty.
