Vietnam Flooring Market Overview (2025)
Vietnam exports flooring in three distinct families, and they rarely come from the same factory. Engineered and solid hardwood sits mostly in the southern wood belt around Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh, feeding off acacia, rubberwood and eucalyptus plantations with imported oak and walnut for wear layers. SPC and LVT rigid core clusters in the north, in Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh and around Hanoi, close to limestone. Bamboo is a smaller, craft-led niche. Ask a hardwood mill for SPC and you will be quoted a trader’s price.
The certificates that decide whether your container clears are emissions certificates, not quality marks. For North America you need CARB Phase 2 and EPA TSCA Title VI; for commercial and institutional projects, FloorScore is increasingly demanded; for Europe, CE marking under EN 14342 for wood and EN 14041 for resilient. FSC chain of custody matters for public tenders and for EU buyers preparing for the deforestation regulation. Verify every certificate on the issuing body’s own portal, never on a PDF supplied by the factory.
Specify the things that fail in service. On engineered boards, that means wear-layer thickness in millimetres (2 mm and above can be resanded, 0.6 mm cannot), core construction and species, moisture content on arrival, and finish system. On rigid core, it means total thickness and wear-layer microns (12 mil for residential, 20 mil and above for commercial), core density, and whether the attached underlay is IXPE or EVA. MOQs typically run one to two containers per SKU, with 30 to 45 days production plus ocean freight.
On US duties, the picture changed twice in 2026. The Section 122 surcharge expired on 24 July 2026 and was replaced within the hour by Section 301 forced-labor duties at 12.5% for Vietnam. Wood products already covered by a Section 232 action are excluded from that 12.5% under heading 9903.05.90. Separately, Commerce issued final affirmative antidumping and countervailing determinations on Vietnamese hardwood and decorative plywood on 21 July 2026, with the ITC confirming injury in August. Engineered flooring is built on a plywood core, so confirm the scope of that order against your exact construction with a customs broker before you commit to a programme.
